This role will oversee the leave of absence services and staff. The manager will effectively communicate with our LMO clients and review the Leave Administrator's coordination of all the all cases/claims, use of systems, general leave administration, compliance with client policies, and compliance with all related federal and state employment laws.


Essential Functions

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the PHR leave of absence program including but not limited to multi-state PFL, STD, LTD, FMLA and client's leave policies.
  • Interpret leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.) to clients.
  • Act as Client's single point of contact to effectively to assist with setups, questions and direction.
  • Facilitate the offboarding of Leave Administrators including systems, process and programs.
  • Work closely with Leave Administrators to ensure that LMO program deliverable are being met.
  • Partner closely with all HR business partners on all leave cases.
  • Manage third party vendor relationships, ensuring that systems are meeting deliverables.
  • Resolve problems and conflicts experienced by Leave Administrator staff.
  • Participate in professional development sessions or seminars.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends and changes in Human Resources legislation, and conveys local, state, and federal laws to clients to maintain compliance.
  • Perform sourcing and recruitment efforts as department grows.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff and highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Demonstrated problem solving, time management and priority setting skills

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Management of the Leave Management Department.
  • Manage quarterly and annual departmental goals and oversee their execution.
  • Include staff in planning, decision-making and process improvement.
  • Makes self available to staff and holds recurring scheduled meetings.
  • Monitor performance metrics including KPIs and provides regular performance feedback.
  • Develops subordinates' skills and encourages growth and continuing education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Human Resources, certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in managing leave cases (FMLA, STD, LTD).
  • Completion of specialized certification or training on FMLA/leave administration is a plus.
  • PHR or SPHR is a plus.

  • Ability to develop rapport with clients and be seen as the "go-to" resource for Leave Management issues.
